Course Directory / Northern Ireland / County Tyrone

County Tyrone is the largest of the six counties in Northern Ireland. On its southeastern side, it shares a border with Lough Neagh, which is the largest lake in the British Isles. The lake draws many bird watchers since a large number and variety flock to the lake and the surrounding boglands in the winter and summer. Lough Neagh is also known for its eel, which it exports around the world. The flat peatlands of the eastern part of the county transition to more mountainous terrain in the west that is adjacent to the Sperrin Mountains.

While it may not have as many historically significant sites as some of Ireland's other counties, it does have plenty of opportunities for golf. The diverse terrain offers lush parkland and also hillier landscapes. Nestled in the foothills of the Sperrins, Strabane Golf Club was designed by Ireland's most well known course architect, Eddie Hackett. Its signature hole, the par-4 ninth, features the River Mourne along the entire length of the hole. While they may share similar landscapes, Tyrone's eight golf courses offer plenty of variety.
