One of six counties that make up Northern Ireland, County Antrim is home to not only the country's largest city of Belfast, but a beautiful stretch of coastline to the north.

The majority of the county resides in Belfast. Once a city of tension during the Troubles, it's now a vibrant city full of boutiques, hip bars and Victorian architecture.

From Belfast, all visitors should head up the Causeway Coastal Route towards Portrush, where incredible coastal sights await, such as the Dunluce Castle ruins and Giant's Causeway. Days of sightseeing can be capped at the Bushmills whiskey distillery a few minutes from Portrush. Other top sites include the Glens of Antrim and Fair Head, a rocky headland known around the world as a top rock climbing destination.

The railway that extended up along the coastline in the late 1800s helped form a number of historic links golf courses that make for some of today's most coveted plays.

Thanks mostly to Belfast, Antrim has many golf courses from which to chose. But the top play is Royal Portrush, which stands as Ireland's only British Open venue and is the home club of U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell. Additionally, Ballycastle Golf Club was founded in 1890 and is located a few miles from Portrush on the same dramatic coastline. In and around Belfast, there are many parkland options to consider, including Belvoir Park, multi-course Malone Golf Club and Balmoral Golf Club.
