County Meath was the seat of the High Kings of Ireland and due to this royal title the county is rich in historic sites and monuments. Colloquially, it is even known as the "Royal County." Its most famous site is the Hill of Tara, which is a group of ancient monuments that are situated along the River Boyne. Although much still remains a mystery, it is said that the site was Ireland's spiritual and political capital. Meath is also home to Bru na Boinne, which is one of three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Ireland. It is one of the largest prehistoric megalith sites in Europe, consisting of Neolithic chamber tombs, standing stones, and henges that are dated as early as the 35th century BC.
In addition to the incredible history, Meath is also known for its golf, most notably the Jack Nicklaus-designed Killeen Castle. The playing options in Meath range from parkland courses like County Meath Golf Club and the Headfort Golf Club, which has two courses, to challenging links layouts like Laytown and Bettystown Golf Club.Find your next tee time at golf courses in County Meath today.
