County Cavan, located northwest of Dublin, is one of Ireland's most watery counties with 365 lakes and two major rivers. Visitors can take luxury cruises down the River Shannon, while fishermen can head out to one of many fish-filled lakes throughout the county. On land, visitors can trek the countryside on horseback or walk the many unspoiled valleys and hills. For natural sights, Dun na Ri Forst Park boasts a dramatic gorge, the Romantic Glen and Cabra River, rife in Irish legend. The Belturbet Station is a cut-stone railway station dating back to 1885 that offers a glimpse into the railway boom. Cavan has a handful of golf clubs, starting with 18-hole Cavan Golf Club. Cavan is one of Ireland's oldest golf courses, but is showing off an enhanced new back nine built in 2005. Four-star Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club is a favorite stay-and-play option in County Cavan. The 300-acre estate grounds feature 50 acres of lakes and hosted the North West of Ireland Open in 2001 and 2002.
