Originally opened in 1923, the Lion Hills Golf Course at East Mississippi Community College is a challenging and fun layout that is open to the public. Designed by John Frazier when it first opened, the course was renovated in 1983 by Ed Ault and Tom Clark and has been evolving ever since. Playing 6,410 yards from the back tees, the par-72 lay6out is also home to the East Mississippi Community College?s golf team. The course is certainly a tale of two nines, with the front side rather flat and the back nine featuring hills and some elevation change. There are four sets of tees, starting at just under 5,000 yards. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 472-yard, par-5 seventh. What it lacks in length it makes up for in difficulty, narrow and heavily tree-lined with plenty of bunkers both in the fairway and on the green. In addition to the course, there?s also a training center, driving range, and practice putting green. The Lions Hill Golf Course is part of the larger recreation center, which also includes a pool, tennis, fine dining and banquet facilities. There are daily lunch specials and Friday and Saturday night dinners.
