Few publicly accessible golf facilities offer more spectacular Pacific Ocean scenery than Pelican Hill Golf Club. Of its two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, the Ocean South was the first to open, in 1991. Its wide, terraced fairways and large, undulating greens cascade downward from the Mediterranean-style clubhouse toward the coastline, where the par-3 12th and 13th holes serve as some of the most picturesque tests of golf in North America. Ravines and canyons come into play on most holes, though Fazio did a superb job of giving golfers space to play safely. On a clear day, it is possible to see Catalina Island, some 30 miles offshore.
