Hardly a secret, but sometimes overlooked among the fine golf offerings in the Austin area, The Golf Club at Star Ranch is a central Texas gem. Designed by the team of Carter Morrish, Jay Morrish, Randy Russell and Roy Bechtol, this par-71 layout plays to more than 7,000 yards from the back tees. The variety of holes and terrain is as diversified as any course in Texas, with water coming into play on several holes, beautifully sculpted greens and surrounds, native grasses and trees framing holes, and gorgeous bunkers that are also strategic. This well-maintained course is rated an almost perfect five stars on GolfPass, and it has been rated among the top courses in Texas by Golf Advisor from 2016 to 2021. While every hole will capture your imagination, the par-3 holes are very memorable. In particular, the par-3 15th features a pond with a cascading waterfall. It's 196 yards from the back tees, so it's as challenging as it is beautiful. The course has a great finishing stretch, too, highlighted by the 441-yard par-4 17th, a dogleg right with a lake that fronts the right side of the green. The Golf Club of Star Ranch has five sets of tees, starting at just under 5,000 yards. The club also offers excellent practice facilities that include a driving range, short-game area, and large practice green. Inside the club's magnificent 15,000-square-foot clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop with the latest in apparel and accessories. And the clubhouse restaurant, The Traditions Cafe, features appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and an assortment of drinks and beer.
