Like the original Founder Course at Verrado Golf Club, located about 40 minutes west of Phoenix in Buckeye, Ariz., the Victory Course is also designed by Tom Lehman. It's a generous, wide-open layout and may be even more player friendly than the Founder Course with no forced carries to the greens. Although at 7,258 yards from the back tees, this par-72 has plenty of bite for anyone daring to take on the whole course. Fortunately, there are five sets of tees, beginning at 4,646 yards, so again, there's a setup for every level of player. The course was built out of an old construction site with beautiful boulders in some of the fairways. Lehman, who won The Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes in 1996, was certainly influenced by links golf when he designed this course. While you won't forget you're in the desert when you play here, the course has plenty of firm grass on it, so you can run the ball down the fairways and even to the green. It's also beautiful, with great conditions and the White Tank Mountains in the background. The two toughest holes are the last holes on each nine. The ninth, a 492-yard par 4, is the no. 1 handicap hole. From the back tees, the carry to the fairway is significant. The 18th is a dogleg right par 5 that plays nearly 600 yards from the tips. Besides the golf courses, Verrado Golf Club has great practice facilities that include a driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. A well-stocked golf shop offers plenty of logged apparel, accessories, and equipment. And the Verrado Grille offers a menu with a wide selection of sandwiches, entrees and beverages, and the views from the patio are pretty spectacular, too.?
