Just 30 miles from Washington, D.C., Potomac Shores Golf Club is the focal point of an upscale master-planned residential community in Prince William County, Virginia. Spreading out on a hilly peninsula near the shores of the Potomac River, this upscale Jack Nicklaus Signature Design debuted in 2014. Soon after it opened, Potomac Shores Golf Club appeared on both GolfWeek s and Golf Advisor s list of the Top Courses in Virginia. The Troon-managed facility regularly earns plaudits for its exciting and challenging layout, its scenic vistas, its course conditions, and its comfortable clubhouse. Though?Potomac Shores Golf Club?doesn t really offer Potomac River views (except when the trees have lost their leaves), dramatic elevation changes lend drama and create plenty of fun shots. Nicklaus s team carved the holes through corridors in the woods. Each hole enjoys its own secluded realm. You ll find elevated tee boxes and wide fairways, but errant shots often disappear fast into the trees. In typical Nicklaus fashion, the challenge at Potomac Shores Golf Club ramps up on approaches to the greens. Because of the up and down nature of the terrain, you ll have several blind or semi-blinds shots during the round. Many greens are elevated and defended not only by bunkers but also by ridges and slopes. On the whole, the putting surfaces are small with pronounced undulations. Potomac Shores completed a bunker renovation in 2022 that which came on the heels of a fairway re-grassing project to ensure better turf conditions throughout the year. The results have improved the aesthetics and playability on this layout that extends from 4,940 yards to 7,,020 yards from four sets of tee markers. Note that the routing follows an out-and-back plan, so you don t return to the clubhouse until you finish. Due to the spread out nature of the playing field, Potomac Shores Golf Club does not allow walking. Practice facilities include a driving range and a green for chipping and putting. The Colonial-style clubhouse features a pro shop and a grill restaurant. If you are looking for a tee time in Northern Virginia, come play Potomac Shores Golf Club, one of the Capital region s best layouts.
