Leesburg sits at the base of eastern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Residents and visitors alike gather in the walkable, four-block downtown Historic District that exudes a lively, charming vibe thanks to its preserved old houses and museums and its shops, galleries, craft breweries and restaurants. Though Leesburg survived the Civil War fairly intact, Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Regional Park commemorates a Civil War battle that occurred here. The park also presents walking and hiking opportunities, but for a hike that showcases panoramic Potomac River vistas, head to Red Rock Wilderness Overlook. Leesburg is also in the heart of Northern Virginia Wine Country and home to numerous vineyards and wineries. A tee time followed by wine touring and dinner in Leesburg’s Historic District makes for an idyllic day.
