Golf Courses Near Spartanburg, SC
Just outside of Spartanburg, a small city in northern South Carolina located 30 miles west of Greenville, you’ll find the only BMW manufacturing plant in the United States. Better still, the BMW Performance Center is there too, a driving course where your driving skills will be tested while you’re behind the wheel of an “Ultimate Driving Machine.” You can try to perfect your other driving skills with tee times at the area’s golf courses. The playing field at Creek Golf Club occupies land that during World War II was a U.S. Army Training site and a holding spot for several hundred German POWs. For a Hot Deal tee time, try Palmetto Hills Golf Club, a layout that features big elevation changes and tree-lined fairways. In nearby Duncan, River Falls Plantation Golf Club boasts lush fairways and greens set alongside the South Tyger River. In Gramling, Village Greens Golf Club, which also offers Hot Deals, is a classically designed layout with captivating mountain vistas.
Tucked in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Spartanburg and its surroundings was a focal point during the Revolutionary War. To explore this history, visit Cowpens National Battlefield and Walnut Grove Plantation. Nowadays, the city exudes a college town feel, as it is home to Wofford College. Spartanburg’s top attractions include Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve, a lovely botanical garden, and the city’s revitalized historic downtown. The entire downtown is a Cultural District with a two-mile Music Trail, historic buildings, indoor and outdoor performance venues, along with numerous restaurants, bars and shops and Sparkle City Mini Putt, a free 9-hole putt-putt course with holes that give a nod to Spartanburg’s history. Just bring your own ball and putter or borrow them from a participating downtown business.
