The Omni Amelia Island Resort s Oak Marsh course is the public 18 at the soothing Omni Amelia Island Resort. The golf course, located on a 13-mile-long barrier island a half an hour north of the Jacksonville International Airport, is a classic Pete Dye design from the early 1970s that will challenge players of all skill levels. Dye built it soon after he finished his more famous Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, a masterpiece that has been the home of the PGA Tour s Heritage Classic ever since it opened in 1969. The Omni Amelia Island Resort--Oak Marsh bears great similarity to Harbour Town. Its tight fairways meander alongside serpentine salt marsh creeks (alas, there are no ocean holes) and around the majestic, moss-draped heritage oaks for which Amelia Island is famous. Water enters the fray on no fewer than 14 holes. Many of the small, tricky greens are bulkheaded and guarded by penalty areas. Plenty of flat-bottomed bunkers add to the challenge on a course highlighted by native flora. You can count on a tranquil round at the Omni Amelia Island Resort--Oak Marsh course. The truly memorable portion of the layout is the back nine. It features a lengthy stretch, primarily that plays beside vast marshland. Members call the Omni Amelia Island Resort-Oak Marsh s rousing finish The Back Three. Sixteen is an inspiring par 3 that demands a carry over marshland, while 17 and 18 are both marsh bound, long, and tough. The back tee box on 17th sets off from an intimidating, isolated pod perched in the marsh some 200 yards from the start of the fairway. Practice facilities at the Omni Amelia Island Resort--Oak Marsh include a driving range and a putting green with a couple of bunkers. After your round, the patio of clubhouse s Marsh View Bar & Grill is an ideal spot to kick back a bite or a brew and bask in the wonderfully preserved setting. If you want to play a little more, the Omni Amelia Island Resort also offers Little Sandy Short Course, a 10-hole par-3 course. The Omni Amelia Island Resort--Oak Marsh course is a perfect excuse to make your way to Amelia Island. Once you are at the resort, you may never want to leave.
