Oakview Links Golf Course, located near Highway 51 about nine miles northeast of Dyersburg, is a popular no-frills 9-hole layout in Newbern, Tennessee. The 1970-vintage playing field is owned by the City of Newbern but privately operated. Over the years the course has built up a loyal following of devoted members and regulars who really like it. As the name suggests, mature oaks dot the fairways, though they are not present in abundance. Most of the playing corridors are quite open. The par-36 layout provides two sets of tee markers. While distance is a factor on a couple of tests, including a 560-yard par 5, the chief threats to scoring are water hazards that enter the fray on five holes and the hilly terrain. You can expect plenty of awkward lies and stances as you make your way around this pretty playing field that doesn t have any houses around it. Walking is permitted and common despite the hills. You ll find a putting green and an area beside the clubhouse where you can hit various shots, but you ll have to use your own balls and retrieve them yourself. The spartan clubhouse has a golf shop where you can get a few snacks.
