Beaufort Golf Club sits at the base of Ireland's tallest mountain, Carrauntoohil, part of the famous MacGillycuddy Reeks. The course stretches across rolling meadows amidst 200-year-old trees. It shares a landscape with the historic ruins of Castle Core, which date back to the 15th century. Some of the castle's stone was used in 1740 to construct the Georgian house that is currently on the grounds. The castle characterizes the back nine, which is situated closer to the mountains. The scenic landscape was enhanced by the addition of two lakes and several new plantings. Since opening in 1995, the golf course has undergone numerous renovations to make it more challenging including redesign of the tee boxes and the addition of mounding. It is relatively young still but the course appears to be maturing quite nicely. Beaufort Golf Club is lucky enough to have an excellent natural drainage system that when combined with the temperate weather of the southwest, makes the course a great destination all year.
