Clandeboye Golf Club, situated in the country surrounds of Lady Dufferin's Estate, offers two 18-hole courses. On either, you might catch a glimpse of antlered deer that are part of a herd established long ago at the neighbouring Clandeboye Estate. The par 70, 5,755-yard golf course is often mistakenly called "the wee course." It's too tough for such a moniker. The second half is comprised of the original nine designed by William R. Robinson. Threading drives between encroaching trees is a frequent challenge. Narrow fairways, established trees, gorse, heather, rock close to the surface and all the other hazards of an un-spoilt natural landscape requires subtlety rather than length. The Ava Course overlooks Strangford Lough.
