With wide fairways and a player-friendly design, especially from the forward tees, the golf course at the Golf Club at South Hampton is enjoyable for every level of player. This Mark McCumber design can play more than 7,000 yards from the tips, but there are six sets of tees, including a burgundy set for juniors that is just 2,846 yards. While the course has 16 lakes and more than 60 bunkers that often come into play from the back tees, the forward tees don't require golfers to carry most of those obstacles. The par-4 18th is a great example. Players on the two sets of back tees have to carry wetlands to reach the fairway. But those on the forward tees have nothing but fairway in front of them. In general, however, landing areas are wide for all players. Still, for those who venture to play most of the golf course, there are two par 3s that are more than 200 yards, and the par-5s from the back tees usually require three good shots to reach the green. There are also plenty of tree-lined fairways, doglegs and quick, large, undulating greens. In addition to the golf course, the Golf Club at South Hampton has a full grass driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. The golf shop is also well stocked, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. And inside the facility's beautiful clubhouse, you'll find an inviting bar and grill, with a good selection of bottled beer and drafts and excellent food. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
