Designed by George Fazio and opening in 1968, Edgewood is rated by Golf Digest Magazine as one of "America's Top 100 Golf Courses". A challenging but fair test of golf for all ability levels, a choice of four sets of tees gives all golfers a course suitable to their game, playing from 5567 yards to a demanding 7379 yard test of golf. In 1980, the U.S.G.A. would host an event in the state of Nevada for the first time. The 55th annual US Public Links Championship came to Lake Tahoe with Jodie Mudd, a junior at Georgia southern College coming out on top.The U.S.G.A. would return to Edgewood Tahoe in 1985 for U.S. Senior Open Championship. Miller Barber came away with the title that year and was the only player in the field to manage to break par that week on the demanding layout. Making birdie on three of the first four holes of the final round, Barber's three under par total bested Roberto De Vicenzo by four strokes for his second consecutive Senior Open title.Most recently, Edgewood has been the annual home of the Celebrity Golf Championship. This fun filled event features some of the biggest names in sports and television. Michael Jordan, John Elway, Mario Lemuix are just a few of the names that have graced this event. Sponsored by American Century Investments and featured on NBC annually, is golf tournament the entire family can enjoy. This years event will be held July 6 - 8, 2001, with practice rounds beginning on the July 3rd.HistoryEdgewood has a long and rich history dating back to the late 1800's. In 1896 the Park family purchased Friday's Station and the surrounding ranch land. The station served as a stage line for Wells Fargo Express and the Pony Express, along with "the finest hunting, fishing, and general well being to be found in the Tahoe region". Friday's Station still stands to this day and can be seen directly across Highway 50 from the fifth green. This property along with the golf course is still owned by the Park family today.Edgewood's golf tradition began when Brooks Park had the vision to create a world class golf course on property that was once used to graze cattle on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Mr. Park would couple this vision with his family's hundred year commitment of delivering only the highest quality experience. Renowned architect George Fazio was retained to design a golf course worthy of world class beauty provided by a site unmatched any where in the world. George's nephew, Tom, with an outstanding reputation of his own, has continued with a number of course improvements over the past decade.
