American's first replica course, Tour 18 Houston, which opened in 1992, would spur other replica golf courses around the world, including a sister course in Dallas three years later. Though it was challenged in court by some of the more famous courses, whose holes were copied, Tour 18 survived and remains one of the most popular courses in the Houston area. Located near Bush Intercontinental Airport in Humble, it was the vision of three original partners, who drew inspiration from playing and flying over their favorite holes at some of the greatest courses in America. What they came up with was a “greatest hits” golf course of replica holes. Among the favorites, of course, are the three holes of “Amen Corner,” which is 11, 12 and 13 at Augusta National, depicted on 5,6 and 7 at Tour 18 Houston. Other hits include a replica of the famed 17th at TPC Sawgrass' Stadium Course (no. 9 at Tour 18), the finishing hole at Harbour Town Golf Links (no. 1), the difficult par-5 14th of Pebble Beach (no. 13) and the third hole at Oakmont, complete with “Church Pew” bunkers (no. 12). Tour 18 also offers a driving range and clubhouse with restaurant and golf shop.
