A tee times at Hibiscus Golf Club in Naples, Florida is a precious commodity in prime season, so don't wait too long if there's an opening. Naples boasts an abundance of private country clubs, but it suffers from a serious lack of public-access places to play. Not only is Hibiscus Golf Club one of the few courses in the Naples area open to the public, it has long been a good value daily-fee facility that strives to provide players with a member-for-the-day experience. This very popular, welcoming facility is home to a user-friendly, beautifully landscaped, splendidly conditioned course that offers appropriate challenges for all levels of golfers. David Wallace, a course architect who did the bulk of his work in Florida, laid out the playing field in 1969. In 2007 Hibiscus Golf Club benefited from a thorough renovation that updated the course conditions and freshened the look of the playing field. Since that renovation, the club has continued to improve the landscaping and aesthetics of the course. Many lovely trees have been added to the layout, including live oaks, sabal palms, shady lady coconut palms, and flowering ipe trees. Hibiscus Golf Club is not an overly difficult test and it s a fun course to walk. Four sets of tee markers stretch the layout from 4,925 yards to 6,476 yards. The round has a nice rhythm as the routing rambles through an old neighborhood with houses set back from wide, forgiving fairways that are loosely lined by hibiscus trees. Water, in the form of lakes and streams, enters the fray on nearly every hole. In addition to a few forced carries, strategically placed bunkers also complicate entry to the greens. Hibiscus Golf Club features medium to large size putting surfaces that have a good bit of character in the form of slopes and undulations. This is not a layout that beats golfers up--many players leave the facility with good feelings about their game. With three par 5s that aren't overly long, the par-37 back nine presents excellent opportunities to score. If you are looking to warm up before your round, Hibiscus Golf Club s practice facilities include a driving range, chipping area, and putting green. The renovated clubhouse features a golf shop and a restaurant that is a separately run entity. Mulligan s Pub and Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and draws a crowd of golfers and non-golfers alike. Hibiscus Golf Club exudes a timeless aura and continues to be an exceptional Naples tee-time option that entices public golfers to come back again and again.
