One of the top public courses in the state of New York, Cherry Creek Golf Links is a wonderful layout with beautiful elevated tees, generous, lush fairways and a terrific variety of holes that will make you want to come back for more after you play this gem. The course is one of two layouts at Cherry Creek Golf Club, which is located in Riverhead on the east end of the Long Island Sound. The other course is The Woods at Cherry Creek, a shorter par-71 layout that overlooks seven ponds with plenty of trees. The Links Course is a par-73 that plays as long as 7,187 yards. Designed by Charles Jargons, water comes into play on nearly half the holes. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 624-yard par-5 fourth. A couple of fairway bunkers and greenside bunkers together with a pond on the left side of the green add to the difficulty. The fifth, however, is not the longest hole on the course. The 18th is actually 644 yards, but it's a par 6 and the hole that makes Cherry Creek Golf Links a par 73. Four sets of tees, however, ensure that there's a good yardage for all levels of players. Cherry Creek Golf Club has excellent practice facilities that include an all-grass range, short-game area and putting green. There's also a fully-stocked golf shop in the clubhouse, and lessons and fittings are available from the professional staff. The 19th Hole at Cherry Creek Restaurant serves a full breakfast and lunch menu and is also available for special events.
