Owned and operated by the Zion Park District, Shepherd's Crook Golf Course is a 6,771-yard par-71 layout inspired by the links courses in Ireland and the golden era of golf course architecture of the 1920s and ‘30s. Designed by Keith Foster, the course follows the natural contours of the terrain, framed by tall fescue and creeks and very few trees. The wide open layout lends itself to a variety of shots as golfers can choose from five sets of tees, depending on their ability or the length they hit the ball. Rated a near five stars on GolfPass, the course was named among the top 25 courses in Illinois by Golf Advisor from 2018-'20. While there are powered golf carts available, walking is encouraged. After the round, golfers can enjoy a sandwich and beverage in Shepherd' Crook's full-service clubhouse grill, either inside or on the veranda, overlooking the 9th and 18th holes. Also, the Eden Room is available for your outings or other functions. And while the facility does not have a driving range, there is an indoor golf simulator as well as a practice green.
