Aguila Golf Course is a 27-hole facility in Laveen Arizona in the?West Valley of Phoenix. Located off of South 35th Avenue (south of Baseline Road), it boasts an 18-hole championship layout and a 9-hole par 3 course that provide excellent bang for your buck. Many Phoenix-area golfers consider it their favorite Phoenix muni facility and one of the best public courses in the West Valley. When you have a tee time at Aguila Golf Course you ll enjoy an intriguing and highly varied collection of holes, beautiful natural desert surroundings, scenic views of the Estrella Mountains and the Phoenix skyline, good course conditions, and very affordable tee times. The Gary Panks-designed championship 18 is a 2000-vintage, par-72 layout that extends from 5,442 yards to 7,089 yards from four sets of tee markers. The playing field rambles over rolling terrain with generous landing areas but also trouble in the form of large bunkers, transition areas, desert trees and vegetation, and Bermuda rough that goes dormant in winter. Three lakes bring water into play on five holes. Panks s elevated greens are large and receptive and they roll true. The back nine is the strength of the course with its array of fun risk-reward holes and its tough par 5s, including a 600-yard monster. While most players take a cart, Aguila Golf Course is pleasant to walk. The adjacent, walking-only Aguila Nine at Aguila Golf Course, also laid out by Panks, is nice?for beginners, juniors, and seniors and for honing your short game. Each hole provides two distance options, with individual tests ranging between 66 yards and 183 yards from the back set of tee markers. Sand bunkers are present on four holes. Practice facilities at Aguila Golf Course are extensive. You ll find a grass driving range, a chipping green and a large putting green. The clubhouse features a full-service pro shop and a restaurant. While Papago Golf Course gets the most hype among Phoenix s impressive municipal courses, many locals will tell you that that city's best course is really the less heralded Aguila Golf Course.
