One of the best open-to-the-public facilities in Northern Virginia, South Riding Golf Club offers a championship level course with a great variety of holes, excellent conditioning and a set of tees perfect for every level of golfer. Designed by Dan Maples, the course, which opened in 1997, plays to 7,148 yards from the tips, but there are four sets of tees, starting at just 5,001 yards. Routed over gentle hills and between mature hardwood trees and grassy meadows, South Riding Club is pure golf. Water doesn't come into play for the most part, and the course isn't overly bunkered. Instead, there are strategic fairway bunkers and a few more greenside that will reward golfers who think their way through the holes. One of the most memorable holes is the 351-yard par-4 eighth. There are many ways to play this intimidating dogleg left. Many players will be tempted to cut the corner over the trees to set up a short approach, but it's risky, of course. The more conservative tee shot to a fairway with bunkers leaves a longer approach. South Rider Club also offers excellent practice facilities that include a full driving range, short-game area, practice bunker, and putting green. Lessons are also available from the professional staff. Inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked clubhouse with the latest apparel, accessories and equipment. And also in the clubhouse, the South Riding Golf Club Grille is known for its excellent breakfast offerings as well as lunch specials.
