The playing field represents a reworking of the long-defunct Tern Bay Golf and Tennis Club. That 27-hole facility debuted in 2007 but closed only a year later when its real estate component went bust. Gordon Lewis, who has done more than 80 courses in Southwest Florida, rerouted and redirected the fairways and added beautiful white sand bunkers to up the eyecandy quotient on this 18-hole layout that is fun to play. The Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club layout spirals around in a generally clockwise direction. Flat, spacious playing corridors ensure that everyone can handle this course. Water factors into all but one hole (the 5th). The lakes and lagoons at Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club usually border the right side of the fairways. While the hazards may extend from tee to green, unless you opt to play from the back two of the five sets of tee markers, you won t face any carries over water. Besides the abundant aquatic penalty areas, thick woods and shrubs loom as penal hazards on many holes. In most instances, this ornery vegetation spells an instant lost ball. Wind is a big factor here, as it comes off?the?Gulf of Mexico which is just five miles away.
