High on the crest of the Chiltern Hills, nearly 800 feet above sea level, Dunstable Downs golf course is laid out on a rolling plateau with views over seven counties, from Surrey in the south to Northamptonshire in the north. The Downs is a famous beauty spot and viewpoint. The bracing air, the glorious down land turf and the richly varied character of the terrain make it an ideal place for a golf course. This course was first established in 1906 and has become a first-class test of golf stretching over 6,322 yards it is a fine test to golfers of all levels. The course was first set up as a 9-hole course but expanded to the 18-hole course that is there today. A new clubhouse was built in 1936 and at the time was a stunning example of modern architecture, with chalky sub soil this allows the course to remain dry all year and highlights the standard of the greens which are kept to a very high level.
