You ll know you are at Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista, Arkansas when you see the Mr. Mulligan statue at the facility s entrance circle. Highlands Golf Course is Bella Vista s premier tournament track, having hosted an APT Tour event and serving as the home course of the local high schools' golf teams. It is the most challenging layout within the community and a favorite of many highly skilled players who enjoy being tested on every shot. Carved into heavily wooded, rolling terrain in 1990 by the golf course architecture firm of Ault, Clark & Associates, Highlands Golf Course is the youngest of the seven courses operated by the Bella Vista Property Owners Association. While it is longer than the other local layouts the par-72 playing field extends to a hefty 7,040 yards six sets of tee markers enable players of diverse skill levels to take it on from a manageable distance. The forward markers measure just 3,912 yards. What makes Highland Golf Course more challenging than other Bella Vista layouts is that its playing corridors are narrower and the potential to lose a ball is constant. The hillier and more spread-out front nine makes a clockwise circuit, while the somewhat flatter and more compact back nine loop circles around counterclockwise. Each hole features either some sort of hazard trees, ravines, water and/or out of bounds. The layout is full of tough, intriguing holes, strategic bunkering, and tricky green complexes, though the bentgrass greens never roll too fast. Practice facilities include a driving range, a pitching and chipping green, and a putting green. The Highlands Golf Course clubhouse features a pro shop, a community room for special events, and a full-service bar and pub. If you are looking to put your game to the ultimate test at Bella Vista, make a tee time to play Highlands Golf Course.
