Montgomery Bell Golf Course in Burns, Tennessee is a very popular and highly rated course in Montgomery Bell State Park. Devotees eagerly make the drive from Nashville for its challenging and enjoyable layout, fast greens, consistently high standards of course maintenance, scenic and tranquil setting, and superb value tee times. Originally designed by George Cobb in 1973, the playing field has been updated a couple of times since. Nonetheless, Montgomery Bell Golf Course retains a classic parkland ambiance. The par-71 layout features four sets of tees that offer appropriately differentiated challenges between 4,981 yards and 6,311 yards. Since the fairways may run out for longer hitters, a driver is oftentimes not the club to hit off of the tee. Almost all of the par 4s and par 5s at Montgomery Bell Golf Course are doglegs but they bend in either direction and feature notable elevation changes on the hilly terrain. The key is keeping the ball in play on holes etched into tree-lined corridors. That task is made a bit easier by the roominess of the fairways. Though the par 3s are tough, scoring opportunities abound on the generally short par 5s. Regulars at the course almost universally laud the fast and firm Champion Bermuda greens. Montgomery Bell Golf Course is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The park is a haven for wildlife, so don t be surprised if you see deer and wild turkeys crossing the fairways. Despite the hilly nature of the golf grounds, walking is very common at Montgomery Bell Golf Course. You ll find greens and tees in close proximity to each other. Pull carts are also available. Practice facilities include an excellent driving range and a putting green that mimics the conditions you ll find out on the course. The clubhouse features a pro shop, a snack bar, and a large veranda. Weather permitting, Montgomery Bell Golf Course stays open all year round. Whenever the weather is nice, though, you can bet players of widely varying skill levels will make the drive out to this Nashville-area favorite.
