Known for having some of the best and fastest greens of any golf course in the Houston area, Cypress Lakes Golf Club is an outstanding daily fee facility that offers a challenging test of golf on a course with plenty of water, wind and interesting holes. Designed by Jim Fazio, brother of Tom Fazio, the course is a solid layout with plenty of lakes, as the name implies. Much of the par-72 golf course, which measures just over 7,200 yards from the tips, is about risk and reward, like the second hole, a 557-yard par 5 that has water down the entire right side. Long hitters who hug the side can try to cut across the lake to the green, but most players will be well advised to play alongside the water. This well-bunkered course also has a couple of drivable par 4s, an interesting collection of par 3s. The course is relatively flat, so the water, which is present on half the holes, can creep in when you least expect it. The fairways are generous, however, so if you're in control of your tee game, the penalty areas should be pretty easy to avoid. And once you get to these terrific ultra-dwarf Bermuda greens, there will be good opportunities to make putts. Cypress Lakes Golf Club also has excellent practice facilities that include a large grass range, short-game area and large putting green. Lessons and club fitting services are available as well. The golf shop offers a nice selection of apparel, equipment and balls. And the grill serves up a variety of burgers and other golf course fare, and includes a big screen, high-definition television for watching sports.
