Experience an Island Green
The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass wasn’t the first island green in the world of golf, it’s just when it was perfected. Pete and Alice Dye’s masterpiece on the Stadium Course features a knee-knocking shot entirely across water. While just a short iron or wedge for most players, it nevertheless brings many of us who play it to its knees. As the lore of the 17th has grown since it’s construction, many public courses have created their own. Island greens have been a common request from developers who summoned Dye to build their course, though other architects have also employed the feature. And it’s not always a par 3. They’ve been installed on risk-reward par 5s and also short par 4s. No matter where you are in the U.S., chances are there is a public course near you that has one. Here’s a sampling you can book on GolfNow.
