The old west is alive and well in Cheyenne with everything from rodeos and ranches to old steam engines and train depots. Known as the the nation’s rodeo and railroad capital — as well as the state capital, of course — Cheyenne is home to a variety of museums, historic hotels, and plenty of western-themed attractions, shopping, dining and saloons. With a population of nearly 63,000 people, it’s also the largest city in Wyoming. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the area with lots of great areas to explore like Pole Mountain and the Vedauwood areas within Medicine Bow National Forest and Curt Gowdy State Park. Golfers also have several choices in the area with several public facilities offering tee times. Among the most popular is semi-private Cheyenne Country Club, a an 18-hole layout that opened in 1917.
