Golf Courses Near Minocqua, WI
Minocqua, located in northern Wisconsin’s Lake Country, sits amidst a record 2,300 bodies of water. With so much water all around and bearing the nickname “The Island City,”” one wouldn’t expect lots of golf courses here. The only public course in town is the well-maintained Timber Ridge Golf Club, perennially one of Golf Advisor’s top-rated courses in Wisconsin. Timber Ridge offers gorgeous Northwoods scenery, but it is more open than other similar courses and its variety of holes make for great fun. Another nearby stellar tee time is Saint Germain Golf Club, which Golf Advisor not only rates as one of the top courses in Wisconsin but also one of the nation’s best conditioned courses. Two other notable layouts within easy range are Pinewood Country Club, a scenic treat that rambles over a former potato field and pine tree farm, and Trout Lake Golf Club, the oldest golf club in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Trout Lake notably features an impressive practice facility.
Minocqua is known for its lakes. Every summer the population of this small town quadruples as people come for camping, fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, zip lining and ATV off-road tours. One of Minocqua’s major attractions is the world’s longest running water ski show. If you get the chance, take a look at a crowded ball field in Minocqua. The locals come out in droves to watch snowshoe baseball, which is softball played on snowshoes with a sawdust-covered field. The players don’t wear gloves. It’s bizarre. If you need a dose of sanity after that, head back to the golf course. There you’ll find delightful courses where the game is still played the way it’s been since it was brought over from Scotland.
