Golf Courses Near Hudson, WI
Wisconsin and Minnesota may have a long-standing rivalry, but they famously share many things in common like a love of beer and passion for fishing, hunting, and yes, golf. You can put the rivalry to the ultimate test in Hudson, Wisconsin, a town on the St. Croix River that forms the border with Minnesota. Hudson’s two golf courses are prized tee times. White Eagle Golf Club embodies Northwoods golf as it churns through woodlands and wetlands on constantly sloping terrain. Each hole is a secluded realm unto itself. Meanwhile, with a whopping 120 sand bunkers, water in play on eight holes, and dramatically contoured fairways and greens, Troy Byrne Golf Club is a tough test that is not for beginners. Golf Digest has repeatedly rated this expansive layout one of America’s 100 greatest public courses. The nearby town of River Falls features three fine courses, but across the border in Minnesota, the town of Lake Elmo stokes the rivalry with its golf offerings, most notably The Royal Club, which boasts a full 18 and a six-hole par-3 short course that anchor a residential community. The severely sloped greens on the big course, an Arnold Palmer-Annika Sorenstam collaboration, are some of the most devilish in Minnesota. Keep an eye out for a Hot Deal when making your tee time.
Hudson, which is just 15 minutes east of Saint Paul and 30 minutes east of Minneapolis, is a paradise for hikers, boaters, and kayakers. The town’s go-to recreation spot is Willow River State Park, where you’ll find the spectacular Willow Falls and the Willow River Gorge. Hudson’s historic downtown is by the river. It’s a popular hub for tourists with its shops, restaurants, and Victorian homes and buildings. The town’s pride and joy is the Phipps regional performing arts center. Hopefully you’ll be putting on stellar performances on the golf course, whether here in Wisconsin or across the border in Minnesota.
