Golf Courses Near Green Lake, WI
Green Lake is a small historic resort community in East Central Wisconsin that formed around the state’s deepest inland lake. By the 1890s, elite Midwesterners were coming here to golf, and the lure of the area’s highly regarded courses to this day. The Green Lake area provides golfers with the chance to make tee times at some of Wisconsin’s finest courses. The headliner is the Links at Lawsonia, which sports a wide open Scottish feel with its elevation changes, heaving contours, strategic bunkering and multi-tiered greens. In addition to being one of Wisconsin’s very best layouts, Lawsonia enjoys a soaring national reputation for the quality of its design. The contrasting second, more modern course at Lawsonia, the Woodlands, boasts beautiful mature trees and presents a target-style game. Other coveted tee times include the 27-hole Tuscumbia Golf Course, where the original 1896-vintage eighteen, Wisconsin’s oldest, calls for accuracy to avoid mazes of trees and the well-placed bunkers that guard the greens. Tuscumbia also has a nine-hole par-3 executive course that’s ideal for beginners. Just north of town, Mascoutin Golf Course is another 27-hole facility with its original Red and White nines that feature fairways flanked by mature trees and sprinkled with a few ponds, plus the newer, more dramatic Blue nine where players confront forced carries, elevation changes, and lots of sand.
People come to Green Lake to enjoy a slower paced, restful and refreshing lifestyle far from the hubbub of most other places. The town boasts a park system and 27 miles of shoreline that provide endless hiking, biking, swimming, sailing, kayaking, fishing and other recreational opportunities. The quaint town is known for its festivals, farmers market, and live music performances outdoors in summer and indoors all year long at the Thrasher Opera House. No wonder so many people sing the praises of this little lakeside community.
