Golf Courses Near Stillwater, OK
Stillwater, located in north-central Oklahoma, is home to Oklahoma State University. The university’s men’s golf team captured the 2018 NCAA National Championship on its home course—Karsten Creek Golf Club. A tee time at Karsten Creek is memorable. Carved through an oak forest and around a big lake by Tom Fazio, it was named Best New Course of 1994 by Golf Digest and it is widely considered Oklahoma’s top public course. Before Karsten Creek arrived on the scene, Lakeside Memorial Golf Course enjoyed a 50-year reign as the home course of OSU’s golf teams. The layout, which dates back to 1945 but was updated in 1998, rambles amidst gentle hills and big oaks. You may be able to score a Hot Deal at The Links at Stillwater Golf & Country Club, a tight, tree-lined course that extends throughout a development full of apartment buildings. White Barn Estates is a 9-hole par 3 course that wraps around a large lake in a residential development and recreation area.
Stillwater is known as one of friendliest college towns in U.S. Southern Living magazine included the OSU campus, which boasts a stately architecture and lovely grounds that includes a 100-acre botanical garden, on its list of the South’s prettiest campuses. The football team plays in Boone Pickens Stadium while the basketball and wrestling teams use Gallagher-Iba Arena, known as “The Rowdiest Arena in the Country.” OSU spirit is pervasive in Stillwater, especially in fall during “America’s greatest homecoming weekend” when some 50,000 returning alumni typically turn the city streets into a giant Homecoming block party. Just off campus, “”The Strip”” is a bar district and the locus of a vibrant music scene that earned the city the moniker “”North Austin.”” Downtown Stillwater features 11 blocks of shopping and dining and The Downtown Stillwater Cultural District includes the esteemed OSU Art Museum. Another popular Stillwater attraction is the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Museum, where you can stand on an actual Olympic podium. For something different, head to the Kicker Company Visitors Center to take a tour of the speaker-making company and see some unique classic vehicles. The capper is the “Wall of Boom,” where for 20 seconds the power of sound shakes the building. Golf’s “quiet” will sound so much sweeter at your next tee time.
