Golf Courses Near Norman, OK
Norman, located 20 miles south of downtown Oklahoma City, is Oklahoma’s third largest city, but it is best known as the home of the University of Oklahoma.
Though the school is a perennial football power, it has also won two national championships in golf. You can make a tee time at Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Course, the school’s home course. Originally laid out by Perry Maxwell, the layout, which spreads out over rolling hills and has a creek running through it, is a tough test that has hosted the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships and NCAA Regional Championships. Look for Hot Deals when making tee times at The Links at Norman Golf & Country Club, a narrow playing field with holes side by side on an old sheep farm. Golf Advisor has previously rated The Links one of the top courses in Oklahoma and a top course for pace of play in the U.S. Cobblestone Creek, Golf Advisor’s #4-rated Oklahoma course in 2019, is a 9-hole par 3 whose small greens are defended by water, trees, and rough. Westwood Park Golf Course is a busy, wide-open municipal course in the middle of the city. In nearby Blanchard, Oklahoma, look for Hot Deals at Winter Creek Golf & Country Club, another championship course that ranks among the state’s best and the top courses in the nation for pace of play. The layout spreads out on rolling hills with 14 lakes and tall pampas grass beyond the fairways.
Many of Norman’s attractions are located on the University of Oklahoma Campus, one of the most impressive historic campuses in the country. OU ’s Museum of Natural History is famous for its prehistoric exhibit which features the world’s largest Apatosaurus skeleton and its Museum of Art boasts a large Native American art collection. The Sooners’ football stadium, nicknamed “The Palace on the Prairie,” is one of college football’s most recognizable. In downtown Norman you’ll find a thriving arts scene with numerous galleries and monthly art walks. Highlights on the calendar include the Norman Music Festival in late April, and Jazz in June, a festival in mid-June. Norman is also Home to the National Weather Center. You can visit the National Weather Museum and Science Center. Hopefully your tee times will be during one of Norman’s frequent sunny and dry spells.
