Golf Courses Near Newark, OH
Not to be confused with Newark, N.J., Newark Ohio is a much different community numerous ways. A suburb of Columbus, Newark is a much smaller city, of course, than one near New York City, and has plenty of points of interest. The most famous is undoubtedly the Newark Earthworks, built thousands of years ago by the Hopewell Native Americans. The site, some 3,000 acres, consists of three sections of preserved earthworks — the Great Circle Earthworks, the Octagon Earthworks, and the Wright Earthworks — and is open to the public. Newark, which has about 48,000 people, also offers scores of restaurants and bars, a few museums and several things to do outdoors, including Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve and Dawes Arboretum, which includes nearly 2,000 acres of plant collections, gardens and natural areas. Golf is plentiful in the area as well with several courses offering tee times to the public. Golfers can book a stay-and-play package, for example at the The Trout Club, which offers a highly-rated par-71 golf course as well as accommodations. Burning Tree Golf Course is another 18-hole course open to the public, while Forest Hills Golf Course is a popular nine-hole option.
