Golf Courses Near Grand Island, NE

Grand Island, located 95 miles west of Lincoln in central Nebraska, is a city on historic US Route 30 (Lincoln Highway). Grand Island has one private golf course and three public courses that welcome tee times. Jackrabbit Run Golf Course is an open, wind-exposed championship layout with large, flat greens and three ponds that enter the fray. Indianhead Golf Course, the top-rated course in Grand Island, is a flat, walkable layout with intriguing, well-maintained greens. Fonner View Golf Course, a little 9-hole executive course on gentle terrain, is a laid-back facility that can be ideal if time is short. In nearby Hastings, Southern Hills Golf Course, one of Nebraska’s very best courses, features a 1920s-vintage, tree-lined front nine with small greens and a much more recent and wide open back nine. Grand Island hosts the Nebraska State Fair every year in late August/early September. In downtown Grand Island, the Grand Theatre is a restored art deco movie palace that dates back to the 1930s, while the Railside District is a shopping area with a number of antique emporiums. The city is home to the Stuhr Museum, a top attraction that explores the history of Nebraska’s prairie pioneers and life on the plains. The Stuhr also includes a living history railroad village and the childhood home of Henry Fonda, a Nebraska native. Each spring the Wings Over the Platte Festival celebrates the migration of the sandhill cranes that annually turns Nebraska into a birdwatcher’s paradise. From late February through late May, Fonner Park offers thoroughbred horse racing. A full-scale casino resort is due to open at Fonner Park in late 2022.
