Golf Courses Near Wilson, NC
Wilson, located 45 miles east of Raleigh, was once known as “The World’s Greatest Tobacco Market.” Now the town is a whirligig capital. The Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park showcases 30 kinetic spinning sculptures made from salvaged metal. Before you think of donating your irons and putter for the next whirligig, try making a tee time at Wedgewood Public Golf Course, Wilson’s muni, and Wilson Springs Country Club, a flat, easily walkable and charming tree-lined layout that dates back to 1915. Wilson’s premier course is Wilson Country Club, but it is private. Many locals also head out to Rocky Mount and Goldsboro for additional impressive course options like Belmont Lake Golf Club and Lane Tree Golf Club.
Wilson has been called a friendlier miniature version of Raleigh. While you can still tour Wilson’s tobacco markets, the city’s more popular, family-friendly attractions range from the Wilson Botanical Gardens, to the Imagination Station Science Museum and the North Carolina Baseball Museum. The museum is in Fleming Stadium, which is also the home of the Wilson Tobs who play in a summer collegiate baseball league. Adults who look upon craft beer as an attraction head to Brewmasters, where you can toast your golf rounds with hundreds of hand-selected brews.
