Golf Courses Near Hendersonville, NC
Hendersonville sits in a valley surrounded by three national forests about 25 miles south of Asheville. It must be a beautiful place because Tom Fazio, arguably the golf course architect most famous for building eye-candy layouts, based his business here. Fazio’s Champion Hills design, like several breathtaking courses nearby, is private, but thankfully, there are a number of other layouts in the area that do offer tee times to anyone looking to play. Cummings Cove & Country Club presents target-style thrills. Crooked Creek, the focal point of a subdivision, is noted for its well-bunkered, undulating greens. Orchard Tree is a sporty little 18-hole par-3 18 holes that measures 2300 yards. At the 27-hole Etowah Valley Golf & Resort, which also has lodge accommodations, the wooded South and West nines are more atmospheric and challenging than the newer North nine.
Hendersonville often tops lists of the best places in North Carolina for retirees. It’s a favorite place because of its moderate climate, slower pace of life, access to wonderful trails and waterfalls, and its wide, historic, walking-friendly Main Street. On or just off Main Street you’ll find a pinball museum, mineral and lapidary museum, science museum, and an aquarium and shark lab. Recently designated a wine region, Hendersonville features a Cheers! Trail for sampling breweries, cideries and wineries. Just beyond town the Flat Rock Playhouse, officially designated The State Theater of North Carolina, presents acclaimed theater productions during its nine-month season. Your best plays in Hendersonville, though, may be your tee times at the area’s golf courses.
