Golf Courses Near Durham, NC

Originally a tobacco hub, Durham, North Carolina was also a cotton mill town. In fact, denim, the bane of golf course dress codes, was first produced in Durham. Now, though, Durham is best known as the home of Duke University, Though Duke is private, Duke University Golf Club, one of the top North Carolina and U.S. college courses, is public. Hillandale Golf Course, which dates back to 1911, is essentially Durham’s muni. Many a local player learned the game on this very busy traditional course that is fun to walk. Coveted local tee times that might present chances to score a hot deal include The Crossings Golf Club, which is known for its artistic cornflake and beach-style bunkers and its island green; Falls Village Golf Club, a housing-free playing field carved through pines and hardwoods with dramatic elevation changes; and even UNC Finley Golf Club, a Tom Fazio signature creation on the campus of Duke’s mortal rival over in Chapel Hill.
