Golf Courses Near Cashiers, NC
Cashiers, located high in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western Carolina about 60 miles from Asheville, has long been a high-end summer retreat thanks to its pleasant climate and gorgeous surroundings. Exclusive private courses and residential communities dominate the golf landscape here, though a couple of resorts in the Cashiers-Highlands area feature courses accessible to overnight guests. One such resort, High Hampton (formerly the High Hampton Inn and Club), has notably just reopened after Tom Fazio rerouted and redesigned the course. If you are looking for a tee time, your only options are Sapphire National Golf Club and Red Bird Golf Links. Sapphire National is a Ron Garl design with a gorgeous set of par 3s, highlighted by the island green 15th. The real showstopper, though, is the downhill par-4 14th, where the elevated green nestles beside a waterfall. Also in the Sapphire Valley, Red Bird Golf Links is a nine-hole par-30 executive course that rambles along the Horsepasture River.
Cashiers sits majestically on a plateau at 3,500 feet elevation. Though the town’s year-round population is minuscule, the numbers swell dramatically in summer and fall. Cashiers exudes an upscale, countrified aura and features an array of boutiques, home decor stores, antique shops, and restaurants. The real draw is the scenery, most notably a bundle of waterfalls, Nantahala National Forest, and Glenville Lake. Whether you are trout fishing one of the myriad local streams, hiking, taking a scenic byway or playing golf, Cashiers is the “Heart of the Mountains.”
