Golf Courses Near Big Sky, MT
Big Sky, a Rocky Mountain resort community perched between Bozeman and Yellowstone National Park in southern Montana, touts itself as the largest ski resort in the country. From May through October, this mountain retreat becomes fertile ground for golfers, albeit primarily members of private clubs. While two spectacular mountain courses designed by Tom Weiskopf and one by Jack Nicklaus draw the most raves, Big Sky features one public-access course that welcomes tee times. Big Sky Resort Golf Course is a playable Arnold Palmer design on mostly flat terrain in a residential development. A stream runs through the course, which boasts stunning mountain vistas. Beyond Big Sky, your next closest tee time options in the public realm are Cottonwood Hills and Bridger Creek, both of which are about 45-minutes away in Bozeman.
Big Sky boasts glorious summer weather. The social epicenter of everything is the 165-acre Town Center. A relaxing vibe pervades this pedestrian-friendly alpine village that is enveloped by 11,000-foot snow-capped peaks. You’ll find high-end shopping and classy cuisine. The nightlife scene is rather low-key—everybody seems to gear up for daytime adventures. To best experience Big Sky in summer, take the chair lift up the mountain to pick up hiking and mountain biking trails or simply bask in the scenery. Big Sky is a prime spot for horseback riding, zip lining, and fishing. The nearby Gallatin River is a fly-fishing haven—it figured prominently in the film “A River Runs Through it.” Yellowstone’s west entrance is also just 45 minutes from Big Sky.
