The home of Ole Miss, Oxford is a great college town with lots of culture, entertainment, culinary options and plenty to do outdoors. With the University of Mississippi located there, Oxford is a city in the hills of northern Mississippi with a great college atmosphere. The school plays sports in the southeastern Conference, plus it has plenty to offer students, faculty and residents in terms of theater, music and art. You can go to Town Square to get a feel for this city of around 30,000 people. There are great local restaurants and pubs. Oxford has a farmer’s market and the historic Rowan Oak home, which native author William Faulkner once owned. There’s also the Thacker Mountain Rail-Trail, perfect for hiking and biking. And the golf is pretty good in the area, too, with plenty of courses offering tee times to the public. Among the most popular is the Ole Miss Golf Course, a highly-rated 7,000-yard championship layout open to the public. Another option is Oxford Golf and Country Club, an excellent nine-hole facility.
