Known for its museums, shoal creek and a wealth of things to do indoors and outdoors. Joplin is a city located along the famed Route 66 in the southwest corner of the state near the Oklahoma and Arkansas borders. The city has a great history, much of it as a mining town, which is depicted vividly at the Joplin Museum Complex. Joplin was also a hideout for the infamous Bonnie and Clyde outlaws, and visitors can tour the garage apartment where they lived for a time. Outdoor attractions include the Shoal Creek Education Center, Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center, Grand Falls, the Frisco Greenway Trail, and a nice selection of golf courses that offer tee times. One of the best and most popular is the Bald Eagle Course at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Part of the Downstream Casino Resort, the course is a championship level 18-hole layout open to resort guests and the public.
