Golf Courses Near Bloomfield Hills, MI
Bloomfield Hills proper only has a few thousand people, but this golf centric community is surrounded by the larger Bloomfield Township. This northern suburb of Detroit is famous in golf circles for the legendary Oakland Hills Golf Club, home of 36 holes, where Walter Hagen was the first golf professional and the Donald Ross-designed South Course has played host to 17 major championships, including six U.S. Opens and a Ryder Cup. Getting a tee time at Bloomfield Hills’ private clubs like Oakland Hills, Bloomfield Country Club or nearby Birmingham CC (both also designed by Ross) can certainly be challenging if you’re not a member or have an invitation, but there is good quality public golf not far away. Most notably there are some nice municipal layouts. Sylvan Glen Golf Course is a popular 18-hole facility in nearby Troy, and next door in Birmingham are two fun nine-hole layouts – Lincoln Hills Golf Course and Springdale Golf Course, the latter of which has been open since 1929.
