Golf Courses Near Berlin, MD
The small town of Berlin, Maryland along with neighboring Ocean City may be the closest thing there is to a Myrtle Beach golf mecca in the Mid-Atlantic. Many golf groups have even ditched Myrtle Beach for Berlin/Ocean City for their annual buddy/girlfriend trips. Berlin presents a wide variety of tee time options, and the town’s history even plays a role. Glen Riddle Farm was the training home of the great racehorse Man O’ War. Nowadays, Glen Riddle Golf Club features two 18s: Man O’ War, a nearly treeless, links-style course with wide fairways, oversized greens and deep pot bunkers; and War Admiral, which flows through mature woodlands and showcases five holes on a scenic tidal marsh. Another standout is Rum Pointe Golf Course, a. links-style Pete and P,B Dye design that boasts 17 holes with views of Assateague Island National Seashore. Golf Advisor rated Rum Pointe #1 in Maryland in 2017. Two of the area’s more scenic and highly regarded courses are The Links at Lighthouse Sound (Golf Advisor’s Maryland #1 in 2020), which is routed along Assawoman Bay and the St. Martin’s River and features the longest cart bridge in the country; and Bayside Resort Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature layout that alternates between wetlands and woodlands and overlooks Assawoman Bay.
Berlin has been called “The coolest small town in America.” The revitalized downtown exudes small town charm with a nostalgic country feel. Some 47 buildings are on the National Historic Register. For a slice of Berlin’s history, the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum looks at the life of a plantation owner and West Indies trader. You will find a variety of restaurants, pubs, and shops in Berlin’s quaint downtown. A favorite event each July is the Berlin Bathtub Races in which decked out “tubs” become racing vehicles. For a more conventional racing experience, Ocean Downs Casino features harness racing as well as casino gaming. Berlin is just 10 miles from Ocean City’s beaches and nightlife and it is also convenient to Assateague Island, a barrier island that is home to a herd of wild horses. Back in Berlin, cap off the day with a stop at Island Creamery, a favorite Maryland ice cream parlor.
