Golf Courses Near Manhattan, KS
Manhattan, Kansas, nicknamed “The Little Apple, is located 50 miles west of Topeka on the Kansas and Big Blue Rivers.” Home to Kansas State University, Manhattan exudes a college town aura. When it comes to golf, Manhattan’s jewel is Colbert Hills, a links-style championship course that spreads out amidst tall grasses on 315 acres of up and down terrain. Golf Advisor has rated Colbert Hills, where you’ll find nearly 100 bunkers and several big-drop tee shots, among the best courses in Kansas. Colbert Hills is the home facility of the Kansas State golf teams. Another popular tee time in Manhattan is Stagg Hill Golf Course, a fairly wide, tree-lined course that is laden with doglegs. For a quick nine, try Wildcat Creek Golf Course, a par-30 executive-style layout that is free of course-side housing.
In a recent list of the most beautiful college campuses in every state compiled by Travel + Leisure magazine, Kansas State University was the winner in Kansas. If you go to a Wildcats game on campus, be prepared to sway with the crowd when the band plays “Wabash Cannonball.” Manhattan has a historic downtown, but adjacent to the 2,000-acre campus is Aggieville, a six-block college-town village and the hub of Manhattan’s nightlife. Aggieville’s yearly highlight is Fake Patty’s Day—an annual pre-Saint Patrick’s Day weekend celebration that originated because KSU was always on spring break for the real Saint Patty’s Day. Another top attraction in Manhattan is the Sunset Zoo, one of the best small zoos in the country. Finally, if your vision of Kansas includes The Wizard of Oz, make your way to nearby Wamego. Oz-themed attractions—most notably The Wizard of Oz Museum—dot this small town. The most fun time to visit is during the first week of October for OZtoberFEST.
