Golf Courses In Lawrence, KS
Located 25 miles east of Topeka and 35 miles west of Kansas City in northeast Kansas, Lawrence is the home of the University of Kansas. When it comes to making your tee times, you’ll see that most of the public courses in or near Lawrence are executive courses or 9-hole layouts. The exception is Eagle Bend, Lawrence’s muni, a championship course that starts off in wooded terrain near a river but finishes with a six-hole stretch utterly devoid of trees. You may see bald eagles in fall and spring. Look for Hot Deals at Orchards Executive Golf Course, a short, 9-hole layout within walking distance of the KU campus. It packs a punch with forced carries on three holes. In nearby De Soto, look for Hot Deals at Oak Country Club, a par-66 course that measures just 3937 yards, and at Burning Tree Golf Course, a pretty 9-hole layout along the Kansas River. Lake Perry Country Club near Ozawkie tops out at 5,346 yard but it is a challenging course with narrow tree-lined fairways and tight doglegs that ramble over up and down terrain. To find additional regulation-length courses, consider tee times in Olathe and Topeka.
Lawrence is a laid-back university town—one of the best college towns in the country, according to many publications. The KU campus is beautiful with wonderful mature trees and a number of excellent museums —Spencer Museum of Art, the Natural History Museum, and the Dole Institute of Politics. Basketball is king here. Dr. Naismith, who invented the sport, was the first coach in the history of this storied basketball program that almost perennially contends for the national title. The famous “Rock Chalk, Jayhawk” chant rings most loudly at Allen Fieldhouse. Historic and artsy downtown Lawrence is alive with culture and it has a real nightlife and music scene. Massachusetts Street–locals call it “Mass Street”–is the center of it all with its old buildings that house coffee shops, diverse restaurants, bars and breweries along with unique shops and galleries.
