Burlington is a small city on the Mississippi River in southeast Iowa. Its claim to fame is reputedly having the crookedest street in the world. Flint Hills Golf Course has been hailed as one of Iowa’s finest munis. The nicely varied layout enjoys a reputation for fine conditioning. A highlight is the 11th hole which has two greens. At Spirit Hollow Golf Course, one of the very best layouts in all of Iowa, look for a Hot Deal. This long, hilly course anchors a gated community. Tall fescue beyond the fairways and fast, hard-to-read greens add to Spirit Hollow’s challenge. Lodge rooms and cabins are also available for on-site stays. In nearby Fort Madison, Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course, a flat, walkable layout with a wooded front nine and an exposed back nine, can be a fun round for all levels of players.
