Golf Courses Near Stamford, CT
Stamford, located on Long Island Sound in the southwest corner of Connecticut, is just 30 miles from Manhattan. Not only is Stamford home to the largest financial district outside of New York City, it also boasts some very good public golf courses that should satisfy anyone looking to make tee times. Stamford’s star muni is Sterling Farms Golf Course , a layout that enjoys a park-like setting on an old dairy farm. Keep an eye out for Hot Deals at Sterling Farms, the #1 public course in Fairfield County. E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course, Stamford’s other muni, dates back to the 1920s but has benefited from a recent renovation. In Norwalk, Oak Hills Park Golf Course, a challenging but not overly difficult layout with some noticeable elevation changes, enjoys a parkland setting. Across the state line in Purchase, NY, Pound Ridge Golf Club is a Pete Dye-designed playing field that brings cliffs, streams, and woodlands into play. Pound Ridge is one of the best and toughest public courses in New York State, and you may be able to score a Hot Deal here, too.
Stamford has many diverse claims to fame. Just to name two—It is the center of the dry shaver industry and it also is the headquarters of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Stamford’s major attractions include the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, which includes works by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mount Rushmore who lived in Stamford; and the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens, which has walking trails and features 850 specimen trees. In addition to numerous restaurants, clubs, stores, antique shops, and galleries, downtown Stamford boasts two historic theaters. Avon Theatre, restored to its 1939 glory and located right on the town green, is a great place to watch a film. The eccentric, 1927-vintage Palace Theatre hosts a wide range of top-tier performers. Of course, in summer the area’s beaches become the area’s biggest attractions.
